Blogging Ideas : Proven Tricks for Generating Stellar Ideas for Blog Posts

Has it happened to you too?

You sit wondering what the next blog topic will be and before you realize, the clock has already ticked away. You start with one topic, do some research on it and then abandon it thinking that there is a better topic to write on.

So much time wasted and so little achieved.

Then, you somehow manage to write that topic half-heartedly.

The end result? A shoddy article that fails to arouse any interest in your target readers and doesn’t gain good rankings on Google.

Well, it doesn’t have to be this way.

I have a solution that removes the overwhelm and makes you focused. So that you know what you should be writing on and have only the best blogging ideas.

How to choose the best blogging ideas for your blog?

Today I’m going to cover how to get interesting blog post ideas that your readers love to read.

If you want to make money from your blog, then your strategy should be to create blog posts that will help you in selling your products  – whether digital products like ebooks or physical products as in an e-commerce store.

If you are into affiliate marketing, then too you should have blog post ideas that help you to monetize your blog.

In many niches, it’s a bit difficult to get unique blog post ideas because the internet has evolved and now we are facing content overload. The same content is being written by so many people.

Here are very simple and everyday tasks that can we do and they can be very useful in giving you unique blogging ideas for your blog posts.

But there is this one step that is absolutely necessary before you jump into finding that first or maybe the next ideas for a blog post.

Let’s get the basic steps clear and get them out of the way.

Identify your target audience.

Before you even begin to gather and brainstorm blogging ideas, you have to understand your audience in-depth.

Create a buyer persona of your target audience. It may seem a simple thing but many people get this wrong on the first go.

Buyer persona is a semi-fictional and generalized representation of your ideal blog readers. For this, start researching your target audience. What are their likes and dislikes, demographics, interests and pain-points.

For example, you could find answers to such type of questions for going in-depth:

  • Who are your potential readers or blog audience?
  • Why would they even care to read what you publish?
  • What are their interests, worries and the information they seek online?
  • Are they male, female or both?
  • Their age group?
  • Cities in which they live?
  • Which social media platforms does my audience visit?
  • What type of blogs, content, forums or communities do they prefer?
  • Which problems or issues are they facing at work (and in personal life – if they are willing to share)

and so on …..

The image below is a simple format of a buyer persona.

Now let’s come to the how to generate blogging ideas for your blog

One of the easiest ways of doing this is understanding the different types of blog posts that you should have on your blog. This simple analysis can give you many blog post ideas.

Ask yourself the simple question – how can you help your readers with their problems? this too will lead to some brilliant ideas for posts and pave the way to many of the points we shall discuss right below.

1- Blog comments

Your blog comments will give you a ton of blogging ideas. See what they are commenting. Take cues from there. They might have some questions. Answer them as blog posts. Perhaps you don’t get many comments on your blog. You can always check out the comments on blogs that are similar to yours.

2- Asking on social media or through newsletters

Perhaps you can also straight away ask people through your newsletter or your followers on social media, what they are struggling with. You’ll be surprised at the responses you get.

Since you already know the basic demographics of your potential readers, it’s a good idea to write posts on how they can reach their objectives or goals.

3- Use metaphors and analogies

Most of the topics you come up with will have been written about earlier. But you can put a fresh perspective on them by using metaphors and analogies.

4- Start with a single blog topic and create variations

This means that you can expand on one or two blogging ideas that you have generated, into many more.

Go broader and narrower with those blog topics. This way you can come up with 5 to 10 variations of the same topic quite easily. Example – ‘How to Create Content That Earns Loyalty for your Brand’ can have variations like, ‘The Benefits of Creating Awesome Content for your Blog’ and ‘The Content Types that you MUST have on Your Blog to build Loyalty.’

5- Do keyword research

If used intelligently, this one tends to be one of the most rewarding tactics to get blog topic ideas. There are many free and paid keyword research tools that will help you do just this. and are my favourite free tools. Just enter any seed keyword that’s related to your niche and these tools will generate hundreds of related keywords. They will give you still more ideas to work upon.

Semrush is a paid all-in-one keyword research tool that gives many keywords along with the search volume. It lets you assess the competition level of your competitors for those keywords.

6- Use blog post ideas generator tools

  • HubSpot’s Blog Topic Generator – here you enter three different nouns and get five different blog topic ideas. These should be good to get your creative juices flowing.
  • Portent’s Content Idea Generator – plug in a few keywords and see this tool do its magic. You get social media very innovative blogging suggestions. Some will be silly but if you keep searching, you are sure to find some interesting ideas for your blog.
  • Build Your Own Blog’s Idea Generator – this tool works a bit different from the rest. You don’t enter any keyword but just click on the ‘generate blog post ideas’ button and see it suggest some attention-grabbing blog post suggestions. Of course, you have to tweak them to fit your niche and industry. But it can be a good start.

7- Steal blog topic ideas

Yes! You heard it right. Go through blogs that are doing well in your niche.

“Good artists copy. Great artists steal.” See what’s working for them (BuzzSumo, a free tool will give you their top performing posts in terms of their social engagement levels)

But wait!

Don’t copy as such. I’m totally against stealing content. What I mean is you take inspiration from their top performing content and get a feel of what’s popular. Their target audience might be the same as yours since they are in the same niche as you.

Let me explain with an example.

Make a list of 5 to 10 websites of your competitors that you admire. Go through their content and analyse which topics they gen write on. You may want to write on similar lines. Take inspiration from there. But don’t steal as such. Give a new angle or viewpoint to the topics they have already written and you have a new blog post.

8- Quora

this is a great resource for questions and answers on almost any topic that people are searching. Simply browse through the section of your niche or type in a couple of keywords on which you want ideas. Quora will display the questions that people are asking on those topics.

Also, see how many people are following that question. This gives you a hint of the popularity of that question.

9- Reddit

This is a vibrant community of people interested in different niches and topics. They range from almost anything under the sun.

That’s why Reddit is also called “the window to the internet”…??

They have subreddits. Become their member and see what’s being talked about in your niche, what people are interested in and what type of questions they ask. Get ideas for your next blog post by covering in-depth answers through a stellar blog post.

10- Find trending topics with Buzzsumo

A fantastic tool that gives a ton of ideas and tells what’s trending. You cannot miss this one. It has both a free and a paid version.

11- Keep a blog post ideas book handy

Inspiration can strike any time. You may get a brilliant blog post idea while you are travelling, going for a walk, while having your meals, during bedtime or just about anywhere. Capture those ideas in a note taking app like Google Keep or simply create an ideas notebook where you write down that blog post idea. Later on, you can revisit that and tweak it according to the need.
